Site: Raisio, Tuomala hoard (1835).

Period: Viking Age.

Dating: 983-996 A.D.

Size: Diameter 18 mm.

Weight: 1.24 g.

Photographer: Antti Huittinen.

 

A coin minted for Otto III in Dortmund. His name is written on the obverse as ODDO REX; the word rex (king) means that the coin was probably issued before he became emperor in 996. The word THERTMANNI on the back side is the old spelling for Dortmund
