Use: Means of payment.

Site: Raisio, Tuomala hoard (1835).

Period: Viking Age.

Dating: 1002-14 A.D.

Size: Diameter 17 mm.

Weight: 1.41 g.

Photographer: Antti Huittinen.

 

This coin was minted for Henry II (1002-24) in Dortmund before he become the emperor in 1014. On the reverse the name of the city is written as THRETMANI and as a mirror image; irregularities like this were common in coins of that time. Some 50 coins of Dortmund are known in Finland.
