Excavation in the settlement began in the summer of 1994. A dark layer coloured by dirt and soot indicated human habitation. During the first summer, the site was excavated in 5cm layers. Strips running cross-wise were left untouched so that a vertical exposure of the cultural layers was achieved.

In 1995 and 1996 a more time-consuming, but more informative stratigraphic unit excavation technique was adopted.
