AERIAL PHOTOGRAPH OF THE EXCAVATION AREA (TYA 279: 100)

Type: The excavation area of 1994 and west border.

Site: Raisio, Ihala, Mulli abode.

Period: Viking Age / Crusade Age / Early Middle Ages.

Dating: 980-1220 A.D.

Photographer: Taina Pietikäinen.

Direction of photography: From south.

In this picture, almost the entire excavation area is visible. The picture was taken in the first year of the project. The clearly visible square paving is the stone foundation of a 18th-century building. In the first year, so called profile strips were left in the area so that the constructions could be studied in the vertical section. The profile strips are seen as a raised cross in the picture. The earth coloured dark by human activity shows how wide the built courtyard was.
