SETTLEMENT SITE EXCAVATED IN TOTO (TYA 281: 145)

Type: Close-up of area 3000.

Site: Raisio, Ihala, Mulli abode.

Period: Viking Age / Crusade Age / Early Middle Ages.

Dating: 980-1220 A.D.

Photographer: Taina Pietikäinen.

Direction of photography: From east.

The building with clay floor has been excavated almost in its entirety. When the decomposed wooden remains were dug away, the rails left by the log constructions and the holes left by decomposed poles are visible in the clay. The picture shows the southeast corner of the building with clay floor where the clay-domed oven was situated. When this photograph was taken, the oven was already excavated to the bottom. The antiquity is disrupted by an underdrain that was dug in the 1960s and can be seen as a dark isthmus in the picture.
