FLE.gif FLE - Future Learning Environment (1997-2000)
The aim of the Future Learning Environment -project is to research and develop the use of new media in the field of learning. In the software development part of the FLE-project the project team is currently developing internet accessible applications for learning. The application that is made in the FLE -project supports (1) collaborative problem-solving, (2) collaborative knowledge-construction and sharing, (3) evaluation (both collaborative and self-evaluation), and (4) development of metacognitive skills.
Research partners of the FLE-project are: (1) the Media Lab, University of Art and Design, Helsinki, (2) the Research Unit of Cognitive Psychology of the Department of Psychology, University of Helsinki, and (3) the Media Education Centre of the Department of Teacher Education, University of Helsinki. The FLE-project is funded by Technology Development Centre of Finland, Ministry of Education and several industrial partners, which are: Sonera, Grey Interactive and Apple Compute.

touch.gif THE TOUCH
The Touch is a short fiction film that incorporates live action with CGI animation. The production is a team effort of three departments at UIAH: Media Lab, Department of Film and Television and Department of Stage Design. Directed by Juha Vanhanen (Media Lab), the film includes the work of several of the lab's computer animators.

reallife.gif REAL LIFE - A Virtual Reality Movie
REAL LIFE is a virtual detective story with science fiction overtones. The programme is based on RealVR technology, with animations and panoramas that give the user a photographic, three dimensional view of the world. The demo version was launched at Into Gallery on October 2, 1997 as part of the Media Lab show IDentities and the final product is in prodution.
