The Video edit is a professional digital video post-production work suite in the Media Lab. The flagship of this production unit is Scitex Stratasphere, a real time six-processor editing/effects creation/graphics video tool that allows working on up to 49 layers with digibeta quality. This machine is reserved for MA- and minor subjects students only. The video edit is equipped with DV-Cam, Betacam SP and S-VHS tape machines. Video workstations operating with DV-format and firewire interface offer an 'instant' platform for digital video users. Located in the MA class and NMC, they enable students to work in real time with tape-to-disk transfer, basic editing tools and digital print-to-tape operations. These stations are open for a limited number of UIAH students. A range of different compression methods for digital video are available in most of the Lab's machines to serve different presentation purposes. All editing and other workstations are Quick TimeŠ compatible and they are accessible through a fast network to make smooth production exchange between video editing and other Mac-software (Photoshop, Macromedia Director etc.) and platforms (SGI-UNIX, PC-NT).
