"POWER!" 26.11.99 at 15.30 in the Media Lab

Lasse Seppänen's final thesis presentation in the Media Lab lecture room on Friday 26.11.99 at 15.30 - welcome! The title of the thesis is "Power! Game Design Document" and Lasse himself describes the work as follows:

"This is a thesis in computer game design.
The emphasis of the work was on creating a professional game design document. The game described in the document was designed specifically for this project. (It is an online game of political intrigue for 1-5 players, called "Power!".)
A game design document is a production document that describes a computer game in a highly detailed manner. The game design document is used as a reference by artists, programmers, sound designers and management. In a sense, it has a relatively similar status as a script in the film industry. As a tool for highly creative professionals, a design document should be detailed and accurate, yet inspiring.
The thesis work followed loosely the design process model most professional game companies use: After initial brainstorming, a coherent concept paper was written. Based on the concept paper, detailed design followed. Once a "board and cards" prototype was finished, outside playtesters were called in to test the game concept. Based on refinements done during the playtest sessions and feedback from the testers, a design document was finally created. Writing the document took about four months.
As a result the game exists as a "physical prototype" only, no digital prototypes were created.
Mock-up graphics for the game's interface were created, and additional inspirational illustration was included in the document."
